Rainbow Eyes

By Emma, 11, Wotton, Gloucestershire, UK

Scarlet, saffron, burnt sienna
Ivory and olive green
Emerald and pink magenta
Cobalt, chocolate, aquamarine

Beautiful and understanding
Straight and true, they tell no lies
Everlaughing, everdancing
Everchanging rainbow eyes

Lavender and red geranium
Twinkling like silver stars
Cinnabar, cyan, cornflower, cadmium
Cover up the lasting scars

Crimson, ochre, ultraviolet
Indigo and bright turquoise
All obscure the lingering sadness
Hidden in those rainbow eyes

Though they seem sincere and open
Guiding, worry free and wise
The tragic truth is bottled up
Concealed behind your fading eyes.

Friends

By Millie, 9, Brunei, Asia

Friends are important with just a glitch
If they leave you will need a stitch
You will miss them in a frightful way
When you really really want them to stay
This is the end of my lovely lolly
It was for my best friend holly

The Night Man

By Emily, 7, Bristol, UK

His hair dyes the clouds dark
as he slowly moves across the sky.
The glinting eye looks over at
the villages filled with night.
His nose forms from the shivering
ground beneath him.
His cold windy breath travels
around the earth into the frosty night air.
His wondering never stops and will never stop again.
THE NIGHT MAN!

The way I see the Ocean

By Isabelle, 10, Hartford, South Dakota, USA

I see the deep blue sea
as I watch
the birds fly by
and the bees in the trees
look like whales
in the water.

A monster

By Hannah, 11, Hudson, WI, USA

If I had a monster as a pet
I would take it to a vet
To check for ticks and icky bugs
And feed them salad and tasty slugs

If I had a monster as a pet
Of course I would let
It run around, but have no fear
It is harmless when I am here

If i had a monster as a pet
I would keep it forever till it
Dies with a sad goodbye
I loved my monster and then it died

So if I had a monster as a pet
I would love it forever but I bet
That when it dies I will cry forever
I loved my pet monster!

When

By Caitlin, 11, Agawam, MA, USA

When friends are really friends, tell me
When world peace really happens, wake me up
When all people are happy, tap me on my shoulder
When my parents are not divorced, stop my crying
When global warming is over, tell me if the world is still alive

Because I would never realise any of theses things because I'm in my own world.

Brothers

By Caitlin, 12, Ohio, USA

Brothers are annoying
Brothers are a pain
Brothers are insane
Brothers are always leering
Brothers are big
Brothers are small
But no matter what they do
You have to love them all

The Ocean

By Gabe, 8, Grand Rapids, MI, USA

The cry of seagulls,
The sound of the drifting waves,
A beautiful sound.

The ocean has life.
It's like a different world there.
So many creatures.

It has dolphins too,
And maybe a watersnake!
The ocean is fun.

Praise God for the ocean!

Refugees

By Latoya, 11, London, UK

Red for war and blood
Eager to escape the bombs
Fearful people hiding in the mud
Unavoidable soldiers with guns
Gadgets hidden
Emitting bombs
Enforcing pain on then
Scared moms

This week was refugee week in my school. So please think of refugees when you are acting like a spoilt brat please? It makes me sad to think of all that war but it helps to stop us being brats!

No Cinderella

By Caitlin, 12, OH , USA

No perfect angel
I'm no Cinderella
I don't need a prince
To come and save me
From the darkest tower,
From my evil stepmother
You see I can do it on
My own.

I'm no princess in distress
No way in a fancy dress
Queen Bee is the closest
To a princess as I'll get
There is no regrets

Maybe Someday
There will be a Prince
To sweep me away
But not today

I'm gonna be a princess
No matter what anyone says
There's a prince
Coming my way
Someday
Show these girls
That this is my world

I'm not still no Cinderella
Looking for my fella
Just a normal girl
In a fantasy world

Teddy Bears at Picnic

By Lexine, 11, Temple City, LA County, CA, USA

Bears smiling, grinning, laughing, cheering,
Drinking, eating, cooking,
Spreading, buttering,
Teddy bears at picnic.

Bears jumping, playing, romping, chasing,
Tossing, throwing, pitching,
Running, jogging,
Teddy bears at picnic.

Bears chatting, talking, discussing, conversing,
Knitting, sewing, embroidering,
Watching, staring,
Teddy bears at picnic.

Bears cleaning, washing, dusting, scrubbing,
Placing, returning, putting,
Gathering, assembling,
Leaving.

My Daydream

By Lozza, Over 10, NSW, Australia

Granules of a golden flat array,
Glitter as the sun
Gently warms them.

The deep blue body sways,
Sometimes gentle,
Sending peaceful ripples to the shore.

And other times turbulent,
A watery monster,
Swallowing swimmers into gaping jaws.

All of this I daydream,
Gazing out of the window,
Thinking of that beach far, far, away.

I'd better get back to work.

Other side of me

By Jada, 12, Fort Bragg, NC, USA

Dark skin
Brown eyes
That's all you see
But there is something else
On the other side of me
I go through a struggle
Which you do not see
I go through a struggle
that should not be happening to me
but what do you see
all you see is the
brown eyes
and dark skin
that is all over me.

Our Jabberwocky

By Year 5/6, 9-11, Stamford, Lincolnshire, UK

It was misty, and the slimy trees
Did sway and rustle in the wind:
All gloomy where the forest grows,
And the groaning rats were outraged.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Dodo bird, and shun
The furious Badger's patch!"

He took his deadly sword in hand:
Long time the evil foe he sought --
So rested he by the sticky Gum tree,
Where he stood for awhile to think.

And, as in puzzled thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of death,
Came charging through the dense wood,
And demolished as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The deadly blade went whoosh and smash!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went staggering back.

"And, have you defeated the mighty Jabberwock?
Come to me, my courageous boy!
O glorious day! Wohoo! Wohay!'
He celebrated in his amazement.

`It was misty, and the slimy trees
Did sway and rustle in the wind:
All gloomy where the forest grows,
And the groaning rats were outraged.

One Life.

By Samantha, 12, Port Macquarie, Australia

Laughing out your heart doesn't mean your strong.
Living your dream every day every night.
Means something has gone wrong.
Live a life thats good and true.
A lot of people will believe in you.
Listen to your heart nice and slow.
Then You'll see the stars glow.
Listen young child when your being told.
The wisdom of someone that is not old.
You can be funny you can be kind.
But you can be awful and unkind.
Remember to be strong and try to live your whole life.
Because you only live on this earth once.

Flying

By Becky, 11, London, UK

I can fly
Way up high
In the sky
Far away
Day after day
And no one can stop me
From not coming back

I can fly past Mars
I can fly past stars
I can fly past the moon
I'll be back soon
I can fly past the sun
And when I'm done
I'll come back to you

Over fields I go
And you'll never know
Just where I'll turn up next

Over land and sea
I can be
A bird, kite or aeroplane
For I can fly

Theres not a place
In the universe
That I can't reach
For I can fly
Way up high
In the sky
When I do fly

Can You Imagine?

By Miranda, 13, London, Ont., Canada

Can you imagine having cancer?
Can you imagine basically living in the hospital?
Can you imagine having no one by your side at any time of the day or night?
Can you imagine not being able to go to school?
Can you imagine that some days you can barely even stand up?
Can you imagine having needles stuck in your chest or back for hours, or even days?
Can you imagine not knowing if you're going to wake up in the morning?
Can you imagine having no friends that cared about your condition?
Can you imagine seeing people cry for the first time as soon as they step into a room you're in?
Can you imagine calling a nurse for a glass of water but she runs in thinking you're dying?
Can you imagine having to go to the ER every time you sneeze, or cough?
Can you imagine barfing up blood?
Can you imagine not getting anything for your birthday because the medical bills were so high?
Can you imagine your parents losing their house because of the treatment your cancer requires?
Can you imagine wishing to not have cancer for at least an hour?
Can you imagine......my reality?
