The cloak has fallen
By Emma, 10, Athens, Ohio, USA
The cloak of darkness fell from the bright and beautied head, the sun. Just as children, mankind, blew out there candles and switched there lights The cloak covered the land. Those golden hills of wheat, Those grassy plains, Those flowered valleys, Those wicked and wretched tundras, Those dusted deserts, Those wonderous wild waters Had finally been covered by the cloak of darkness, Night. (April 2008)

It Has Wings of Steel
By Ben, 11, Bangkok, Thailand
It has wings like steel that glint in the sunlight. It stares with hard stone eyes and Its ears prick to the cry of a tree as it is cut down mercilessly.
It walks among us, small in a crowd of sinful giants, yet taking as much notice of us as we would a fly.
It is wiser than most. It has more power than most. It is the mystery that solution puzzles over. It is the fact that religion can't help but see reason in.
it is immortal. It is truth. It is death. it is decay. It is nature. it is fate. it is faith. It is nothing.
Then it blinked And it was no more. (March 2008)

The Green-eyed monsters
By Ailish, 11, Palm Harbor, FL, USA
Its Green eyes ablaze, It runs out its cage. It roars loudly in your mind It stomps on your heart. It's taking the real you, Dragging , ripping , tearing you apart. It's taking over you. Hiding you away. Away from your family, Away from your friends. Then you start to see both sides. You see both ends! The creature can feel it. It's getting sucked back in! The real you now here, You know without a doubt. Never , ever again, Shall you let that monster out. (April 2008)

Until You Fall
By Lauren, 12, Wakefield, UK
Falling, falling, Down and down, Whispers, screams, you hear, When you're going, Down and down. On your path, To the dark future. Scared, nervous, sad even. Because you don't want to move on, Because you won't move on, Because you can't move on. The past you've been through, The pain you've been through. The happiness created from mermories, The slightest smile forms on your face when you think back. Back deep within your remaining thoughts. Formed from the tiniest thought of the good past. From them, their lives. Until you come back. Awaken from your daydream, once again. Falling. Screaming. Laughing. Crying. All at the same time. Until, You trip! you cry, You FALL.
Again and again. FALLING... Falling,
FOREVER (February 2008)

Australia
By Elaine, 8, Kariong, Australia
The sun has shone among the land, the moon has gone once again. As creatures gather in a terrible matter they hope it's not the end. As vanilla skies are passing by all the earth is mended. The trees are golden like the sun the afternoon has ended. The birds fly back to their nests making a terrible mess of feathers. So that's how lucky Australia gets to be. (February 2008)

I Know an Alien from Mars
By Dhwani, 11, Bangalore, India
I know an alien from Mars, Who spent her life counting stars! She carries a gun, And acts like Attila the Hun!
She lives on buns, She weighs ten tonnes! She has a green dog, Who is a hog!
I hate her horns, which are like thorns. She shoves them around, And she dances round & round.
She skips a lot, And makes apples rot! She gave me a blister, As you can guess, she's my sister! (February 2008)

The frozen man
By Ellie, 9, Egerton, England
Out at the edge of the forest where lonely trees stand like tired soldiers in the deathly cold
and a evil army is marching to war against the earth and the anxious trees freeze in silence under the rolling moon
a child is walking alone: on the crunching bones his lifeless feet thud and thud.
Here in a warm, snug cottage in the heart of the forest the heat is like a dozing dog with her new puppies.
You can hear the family toast marshmallows in the crackling fire and the voices laughing and laughing.
When the frozen child comes to the door be prepared, be prepared, be prepared... (February 2008)

Here comes the Midnight Walker Searching for some food Tonight, he is very hungry He might find the rude

Here comes the Midnight Walker He has eaten his meal This Midnight Walker never stops And he is certainly real (February 2008)

Thank you
By Natasha, 11, New South Wales, Australia
When someone helps me I give them a smile When they are done I thank them a mile
It's better to have A person to help you Especially when Your homework is due
I like saying thank you I am showing some manners One day I will be so nice My name will be on banners
'Thank you, kind person' Is what I will say And that's when I realise I'm having a good day (February 2008)

My Problem
By Bexx, 11, Wellington, New Zealand
I have a problem, Something I hate to share I pretend it doesn't hurt me, I pretend to not care,
Everyday I wake up, With a feeling of dread, Feeling scared, nervous and shaky, From my toes to my head,
I really don't like bullies, They are horrid and not nice, So if you are getting bullied, Ask for some advice!
P.S please send in your comments about my writing! (February 2008)

Petal Pollution
By Marissa, 13, Ohio, USA
Flowers of the morning Are beautiful warnings That tell us We may need to change The way our lives are arranged
Big changes, oh no But they must be small To go with our extremely populated flow
Keep things unplugged and turned off And we will not make our envoirnment scoff With terrible pity And we can have a very clean city! (February 2008)

Rainbow Eyes
By Emma, 12, Gloucestershire, UK
Scarlet, saffron, burnt sienna Ivory and olive green Emerald and pink magenta Cobalt, chocolate, aquamarine.
Beautiful and understanding Straight and true, they tell no lies Everlaughing, everdancing Everchanging rainbow eyes.
Lavender and red geranium Twinkling like silver stars Cinnibar, cyan, conflower, cadmium Cover up the lasting scars.
Crimson, ochre, ultraviolet Indigo and bright turquoise All obscure the lingering sadness Hidden in those rainbow eyes
Though they seem sincere and open Guiding, worry free and wise The tragic truth is bottled up Concealed behind your fading eyes. (February 2008)>/I>

By H.W., 12, Seoul, South Korea
Cerberus Six eyes Three throats Dripping jaws. Savage growl from triple mouth
as it bars the way to the Underworld.
Pegasus
Great wings Flowing mane Gallops in heaven Canters on earth. Fast as the wind Gentle as the breeze And is gone With a swish of his wings.
Dragon Dragon, Dragon, O mighty beast With sharp claws And flaming breath, Wings of leather for soaring through the heavens Dragon, Dragon O mighty beast Would he exist? You may believe it, Or else you may not! (November 2007)

Rain
By Aleshka, 12, Peoria, Illinois, USA
Raindrops dance On the rooftops, And slide down the window-pane.
Me inside, Cozy and dry, Reading a book by the fire-side.
Wind blows the rain-clouds Across the summer sky, Soon the sun comes out to dry. (November 2007)

My Nana (Written for her 60th Birthday)
By Caitlin Rose, 10, Hartlepool, UK
Not only today do I realise, how important my Nana is to me, To this day I still remember, the first time I sat upon her knee.
My Nana is very loving If I'm hurt she's always there, My nana is very special, I know she really cares.
My nana is my best friend, I go to her for advice, My nana is very kind and also very nice.
I know I'm very lucky to have a nana just like you, You're the best nana in the world, your friends all know it too.
Nana you're always working, saving lives everyday, Tonight's your night off you deserve to party and play.
Now nana's special birthday is here, all her friends and family gathered round, Raise your glasses in the air, make my nana really proud
Let's all say 'Happy Birthday', say it loud and say it clear, Take a sip from your drink, Nana thanks you all for being here
'Happy Birthday Nana' I Love You x (November 2007)

Rocking Lullaby
By Ruth, 13, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Going to hold this child, Going to hold her tight, Till the mornin' light.
I may be tired, I may be weak, But I'll hold this child so soft and meek.
So, I'll rock her throughout the night! (November 2007)

Alone
By Courtney, 10, Illinois, USA
Walking home from school, My friends surrounding me. They're so loyal, They make me feel good. I'm very excited... Got my first `A.` Can't wait to tell you. Sprinting through the rusted screen door, Heard a squeak. I yell your name, Mommy, Nobody answered... Complete silence. I run through the house. Could you be out? I don't think so, Not on a day like today. Sunny, bright, and fun. Now, walking through the den, I burst into tears. The sky turns gray. I run outside, Into the pouring rain. Crying, my tears mix With the sad little drops From the heavens. Mommy, I am alone now. Daddy left us; Now you're leaving me? I have no one left, No one to be with. I am Alone. (November 2007)
