Beronia's Yeast Cake

This cake from the Middle East is like a very rich bread.

Serves 10-12

V
D (see abbreviations)

Ingredients
2 cups strong flour
1 envelope quick yeast
1 cup sugar
4 eggs, beaten
2 cups warm milk
2 cups warm water
1 tsp. baking powder

Whipped cream and fruit to decorate

Method
1. Mix the flour and yeast in a bowl
2. Add the sugar and eggs
3. Stir in the milk and water and leave in a warm place for half an hour.
4. Add and mix in the baking powder.
5. Bake for 40 mins in a hot oven
6. When cool, decorate with cream and fruit, or with icing and glace cherries.
