For or against Fox Hunting

By Hannah, 12, Bucks, UK

I would just like to say that many people agree with Fox Hunting but many people also disagree. I don't really have an opinion but I am going to list some reasons for and against to help you make your own opinions. Firstly when a fox is hunted it is sometimes chased for hours on end. Then when it is finally caught it is exhausted and tired. The fox hound will grab it's neck and rip it apart while it is still alive. This process is cruel and painful! How would you like it if someone does that to you? But fox Hunting is a traditional way of keeping fox population down. People who work Fox Hunting if it is banned they will lose their jobs, they can also lose their best friends. The hunting horses will have to be shot because otherwise they will die of depression. The hounds will be shot because they have been trained to kill and therefore cannot become pets. So I hope that my article has made you make your mind up it certanily has made mine up now I have writen it. I think Fox Hunting is cruel and I am certainly against it. (January 2005)

Will I Ever Want to Graduate

By Emily, 10, Texas, USA

'What do y'all want your graduation theme to be?'. Those are the words I don't look forward to. Graduations in the past have made me cry. It is because you know the people graduating and because of a song that they sing at my school each year during graduation.
When I was in Kindergarten and 1st grade, I had no clue what was going on. In 2nd grade, my brother graduated. Two years before that, my sister did. In 3rd grade, I wasn't close to anybody that graduated, but I knew that I still cried because of the song. In 4th grade, I had a friend graduate. Now I thought I was really alone.
When I'm thinking about it, witnessing it, or even talking about it, I choke up. But also, in my heart I know my day is coming, in fact, in just 4 months and 29 days. That may seem like a long time to you, but not at my school.
I know way down deep that I do want to graduate 5th grade, but not just yet.
I might attend a small school, but everyone there who educates and is getting educated, has bigger hearts than youv'e ever imagined and will ever know. (January 2005)

The world

By LiYunShu, 12, Singapore

Hey, do you know how lucky you are?
When you want a cell phone so badly,
do you know some kids are dying of hunger?
When you are dating your guy,
Do you know some people will sleep in the snow that night?
Sometimes, endangered wildlife is dying,
and you are enjoying your ice-cream.

I don't mean to spoil your happy moments,
I just mean that you should try to help.
Maybe, buy a homeless a burger…donate some money to the Wildlife fund.
If every kid do something, every person do something,
Even the tinniest bits,
It will change the world!

Are we Losing the True Meaning of Christmas?

By Hans, 11, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Everyone loves Christmas. But are we losing the true meaning of it? All people expect from Christmas nowadays is presents and gifts. Many poorer people cannot afford gifts or even, food. If you take away all the laughter, all the turkey, all the joy, and all the presents, you can see what Christmas is like for many poor and homeless families. The true meaning of Christmas is giving things to those who need it, not just presents from Santa and your relatives. (January 2005)

In to deep

By Stormy, 13, San Antonio, Texas, USA

I have heard this many, many, many times - that the US is too involved in other country's affairs. And I'm over here asking, "WHAT?"

Because, the US is just helping out those countries right…and those people that are telling me that we're in too deep are the ones that tell me I should always be helping people less fortunate to myself, and then the turn around and say the US should be a solitary country. Go figure.

Have you ever thought about the hyprocrisy behind that?

Home rules

By Karolina, 14, Poland

I think the rule about going out in the evening is unfair .If you want to know why, you should know that I love hang out with my friends and cousins (not necessarily at home). So I often go out with them. But my mother thinks I am too young for come back before even nine o’clock! She maybe has right but why my sister (she is only three years older than me) can go when she want and everywhere where she want and I can’t? That is not fair. (November 2004)

Unfair world

By Elle, 11, Nottingham, England

You think that your poor, that you don't have much. You don't have an X box (shock, horror!) or your mum didn't let you get a manchester united t-shirt but GUESS WHAT??? People in other parts of the world would LOVE your battered old trainers or you RIPPED fashion Polly because at least they would have had SOMETHING.

In other parts of the country, people don't have anything, and I mean nothing. They would kill to have something usefull, which you may think is useless.

And other people, who perhaps can afford a house and whatever, but have major family problems. One of my friends at school's mum is in hospital and is having three HUGE operations and if it goes wrong then everything is lost. Her sister also had a misscarriage and her brothers were bullied real bad but she gets on with life and she is so tough and so should you.

You know what, you shouldn't complain unless you really do have nothing. Nobody likes a whinger and in the end, if you just go on and on people will get fed up!

So all I'm saying is, think of other people who have it worse than you, OK?

Orlando Bloom: Good looking or Bad looking?

By Claire, 14, Glasgow, Scotland

Orlando Bloom: Good looking or Bad looking?
I don't personally find Orlando Bloom attractive. I don't understand how other people do. I think Chad Michael Murray is georgous though. I am gutted he is engaged to Sophia Bush. It sounds romantic the way he proposed though. Apparently, there were lots of candles and he spelt out the question with roses. Wot do you think of Orlando Bloom? Are you gutted about Chad Michael Murray? Please reply. (October 2004)

"World Peace", from a Republican's perspective (for once)

By Jen, 15, USA

Okay, it sounds rather…strange saying this, so I'll just say it.
World Peace is more Idealistic than realistic. Countries should not have to care for more than theirselves, otherwise, there would be too much power given to the government. Too much power in our history has led to dictatorship, which has led to wars, which made people miserable and Idealistic in the first place. Idealism is a dream which no one has a chance of acheving. The world is too greedy, you may not be greedy, but other people are.
Furthermore, if you see starving children, people living in filthy environments; yes, I feel bad for them too, but there are ministries that can help them by sending them checks every week or month or so. It is not their fault that they are so dirty or poor or dumb (even though they might be lazy instead), it's their government's fault.
Even America is starting to fall by taking away religious rights…such as the rights to keep the Ten Commandments up by the Pennsylvania courthouse… because people want God out of the picture…but I won't get into that.
World Peace cannot be achieved. I'm not particularly pessimistic; it's just reality.
People see reality t.v., even though it's practiced before they go on air, or reality this, reality that. But it's not real reality, it's trash made up for people to believe as truth. There is only One Truth...even though if you try to stand up in school and say so, they'll try to silence it.
Idealism is a dream set up by people who have good intentions, but don't really see down the road, or into the greediness of other people's mind. You might call me suspicious, you might call me narrow-minded, but consider this...should two people get the same pay, even though one's a janitor, who slacks off, can't be found for the rest of the day, and usually resides in the Teacher's Lounge, have equal amount of pay of a hardworking citizen? Is that fair? Is sharing everything you have with other people, some of whom don't deserve it fair?
That is Idealism. And THAT is World Peace.

My music

By Romina, 14, Durrës, Albania

My hobbies are music and languages. I'm loopy for the best cantatrice of world "Celine Dion". I like moreover "Whitney Houston". She has a loud voice. I loathe when I see and hear Britney Spears. She has a falsetto. Britney smudge the scene when she sing. She corrupt the music. I like "Eminem". He is very original. Eminem is the crown of rap.

Just A Thought

By Helena, 15, USA

OK, since everyone's saying how good secular bands are, you know, there is such thing as CHRISTIAN rap and rock (I like TobyMac, FIF and Relient K but my parents really don't.) Christian songs aren't all worship Sunday songs, and their words are better than some cds you probably listen to. Just a thought. (September 2004)

What it Means to be a Girl

By Puja, 11, San Bruno, CA, USA

In different parts of the world there are a lot of benefits and disadvantages of being a girl. Girls usually have a better chance of being a teacher in some places, while in some places girls usually can't go to night clubs (who'd want to?) and in some places, not too many girls get to work because they're not men. In many places women are free to vote, work, and have equal rights. But in real life, they still have little freedom. Many men still think that they are better. Men can get higher degrees, while in some places girls aren't even sent to college. This unfairness may end, but until then, we're stuck with this prejudice. (August 2004)

Animal Testing

By Anna, 13, Wales

I cannot STAND animal testing! I despise it so! Did you know that over 3000 primates are tested on illegally a year?! If it's for a good cause like medicine, then I don’t mind it, but it's things like make-up and cosmetics that really annoy me! The fact that they also take out blubber from the whales for stupid lipstick, argh! IT'S SICK!
