The Truth Cookie is an excellent book. I have read it about 20 times now and never get tired of it. It is about a girl named Lulu and her mum died. Her dad has a girlfriend named Varaminta and she is pure evil. I don't want to give away much more of the story so I will let you read it. here are two more bokos in he series and they are caled Cupid Cakes and Chocolate Wishes. You must read them and you can probably get them from your local library. I rate them all at about 7/10. Enjoy!! (June 2006)

Review of The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo

By Abigail, 9, Chicago, IL, USA

This book has 228 adventurous pages.

Are you ready for some exciting adventures? Then you should read The Tale of Despereaux. I recommend it to people who love risk and challenge. When you read it, you will be surprised at how tiny Despereaux and the others find their way through all the different places in the castle they visit. I would give this great fantasy book five stars.
I liked this book because of its great words, pictures, and because of the characters. Other books by this author are also very good such as Because of Winn-Dixie. This book won the Newberry Award because itýs so good. When you finish this book you will feel sad because the adventure is over but then very happy that you read it.

Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand

By Perth, 12, Bangkok, Thailand

Seabiscuit... Such a strange title for a book, I'll give you 3 chances to guess what it's about. No clue? Okay, it's about a racehorse in 1938. Born unwanted, Seabiscuit was staggering in claiming races until three men, all shattered in their own way found him. Charles Howard, the owner, Tom Smith, trainer and Red Pollard, jockey. Read this amazing true story of a small horse who built his way up to America's history. This is truly a must read, will make you cry. (June 2006)

Kids on the Run by Barbara Mitchelhill

By Alia, 12, Reading, UK

Kids on the Run is the best book I've ever read in my whole life! It made me feel lots of different feelings and enthusiastic to go on but the bad thing was that I finished it within two days! It was so exciting and made me feel as if I were actually there and were trying to run away from someone.
It's about a boy and his older sister who one day are awoken by two strangers in their house who arrest their dad and are looking for something in the house, their dad tells them to run away and take an anonymous package with them. They're frightened and worried about their father. It really is a fantastic book and I'd advise anyone and everyone to read it!

A Taste of Blackberries by Doris Buchanan Smith

By Ana, 13, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

This book is about friendship. Even though the title sounds like it would be about picking blackberries, actually it's very emotional. If you like sad stories with adventure and some danger, it's the book for you. I was surprised by the events in the story. You will enjoy this story about two very special friends. (June 2006)

The Curse of the Blue Figure by John Bellairs

By Marguerite, 15, Placitas, NM, USA

In this story, we meet Johnny Dixon, a jumpy boy of 13 with blond hair and glasses. He doesn't seem like the kind of kid who would get into the kind of adventures that he does, but he faces them with the help of his friends. This book is merely the first in the series of Johnny Dixon's adventures. There is a total of 12, in this order: The Curse of the Blue Figure- The Mummy, the Will, and the Crypt- The Spell of the Sorcerer's Skull- The Revenge of the Wizard's Ghost- The Eyes of the Killer Robot- The Trolley to Yesterday- The Chessmen of Doom- The Secret of the Underground Room- The Drum, the Doll, and the Zombie- The Hand of the Necromancer- The Bell, the Book, and the Spellbinder- The Wrath of the Grinning Ghost.
I guarantee, if you love dark magic, mystery, horror, and non-stop suspense, you'll love the any of the John Bellairs mysteries. They are books that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you turning the pages. They are for those who are not quite ready for Steven King. Try reading one, and you'll want more. A Taste of Blackberries, Doris Buchanan Smith

By Michael, 13, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

The story is about two best friends who were always together. One day they jumped over a fence into a neighbor's backyard. They liked to pick her blackberries. One day one of boys Jamie got stung by a bee while picking blackberries. He was allergic to the bees' venom. I think the story is interesting because they are best friends. Just like my best friend and I, if we are sad we make each other laugh. (June 2006)

Missing by Catherine Macphall

By Emma, 13, Cornwall, England

Maxine was fed up with her parents. Derek, Derek, Derek. That's all they ever talked about, her missing brother, Derek. So what if he was missing? All he ever did was get into trouble at school.

Maxine was secretly glad he was missing and wished he were dead - she felt guilty when she thought like this, but she couldn't help it. Maxine knew she should be grieving like her parents, but she just couldn't.

I really loved this book, a surprise in every chapter. I finished it in two hours, as I just couldn't put it down. As you read the book, you start to understand Maxine more, which really helps you to feel what it would be like in her position. If you're looking for shock and surprise, I recommend that you read this book by Catherine Macphall.
