Melissa, Queen Of Evil By Mardi McConnochie

By Taylah, 10, Victoria, Australia

I think Melissa, Queen Of Evil is a great read because it has a lot of action and it`s got a bit of romance in it as well. When I read this book it was like I was transformed into another world because of all the magical spells, and to think she was just an ordinary girl who plays cricket. This book is great and I recommend it to people 8 and up. If you read this book, I hope you enjoy it. Taylah (January 2007)

Are we there yet? By Alison Lester

By Emily.K, 10, Eltham, UK

This book is about a family that visits the whole of Australia and has lots of fun doing so. Their fantastic journey starts at Binnum, Victoria. Because they are travelling around the whole of Australia, it takes a winter term (three months) to do it. They travel by car but at the back there is Poppa`s old Camper Trailer (which is their home for three months). Poppa`s trailer
folds out to make a little house, with a table, a fridge, two double beds, a stove and a sink. As this is a picture book, the illustrations are nice and colourful. This helps the understanding of the story. This is a fun book with easy-to-read writing. The reader of this book should notice some of the places the family visits such as Binnum, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Perth, The Great Ocean Road and so on. The highlight to me was when the family was staying in Sydney and saw the fireworks display which was beautifully and colourfully illustrated. If you like fun, adventurous and energetic books, then this is the book for you!!! Borrow it from your library NOW!!

The Lion The witch and the wardrobe, C S Lewis

By melissa, 11, Invercargill ,NZ

I think that this book is so cool. My favourite part is when the girl meets the part human part animal thing because of when she goes into his house and he plays music because of what happens to the fire.
I think that the most saddest moment is when they try to kill the lion. My Favorite character is the lion because he is generous to the people who like him. For exsample the witch was going to kill the boy but instead the lion made a deal, the deal was for them to kill the lion not the boy. I realy enjoyed the book and I think that kids who are old enough to read it should. from Melissa

The Prophesy of the Three Stones by Flavia Bujor

By Haley, 12, Jamestown, TN, USA

This book is so cool. I love to read books like Harry Potter. This book is like Harry Potter but with the Sisterhood of the traveling pants mixed in but without the pants or any other piece of clothing. It is about three girls who ate connected by three stones. They have to find a way to fulfill their destiny without dying and not being captured by the council of twelve.

Characters
The main charactor is Lyra, she has lived at Jordan College for most of her life and doesn't know her mother and father.

Good to read?
This book is brilliant and I guarentee you will not be able to put it down. The descriptive language helps you get a clear picture in your head of whats going on. Brilliant book from the first page to the last.

Production
It has a very interesting front cover and the picture is of a very important object in the book. Quite easy to read, but complicated in parts.

My Opinion
I would give this book 10 out of 10. I would definitely recommend this book. I think boys and girls over the age of 10 would enjoy this book.

By Poppy, 9 nearly 10, Spalding, Lincs., UK

I love The Story Of Tracy Beaker because Tracy is really
just like me. Even though I have long brown curly hair
and blue eyes I like everything else apart from a
rotwellier. I think everyone should read it and every
other book Jacqueline Wilson has written.
I have a total of 25 of her books.

Slam! by Walter Dean Myers

By Kamran, , UK

I read this book Slam! and it's a very interesting story. It is a story about a 17-year-old guy who lives in Harlem. Slam! is much more than a great story about basketball. You learn you can take skills and desires from one setting and apply them to another part of your life. There is a lot for us all to learn from this book
Every one can read this book & Walter Dean Myers writes wonderfully.

The Pony-Mad Princess by Diana Kimpton

By Samantha, 11, Girvan, Scotland

This book is very very good. There are a whole series of it. Its about a princess called Princess Aurelia but her nickname is Ellie. She has 4 ponies called Shadow, Starlight, Sundance and Rainbow. Sometimes she doesn't like the rules of being a Princess, but always puts her friends and ponies first, and has lots of adventures. The book is very clear on what's happening and explains everything well too. (August 2006)

The Skill Of Reading

By Matthew, 14, Wakefield, UK

Time is short so I'll try to be brief as you'll all get bored if I drag on.
I read a book not too long ago. Its length - varying, its plot - well that's anyone's decision. But what makes it different, well it can transfer you away from reality or open your eyes to it, it can stir deep, mysterious emotions or your favourite, familiar ones. It can increase and satisfy our thirst for knowledge or make us ignorant of it. So what is this book I hear you cry, what book or even thing could do that, I'll put you out of your misery this book is - any book you desire on the face of the earth. Yep, books can do all of that and more, which is why I urge you to read any book at hand. Put it this way, children in less developed countries do not want to spend the money they earn on sweets and games but on school fees to learn to read and write. So saying we take reading for granted is a bit of an understatement.
The bottom line of all this is to read, it can be an unknown book or an over hyped one (cough Harry Potter cough) any book can exercise your ability.
I know I was supposed to review a book but the simple skill of reading has become some peoples dream, hobby and life, it's certainly become one of mine.

Cirque Du Freak: Lord of the Shadows

By Edina, 13, St. Louis, MO, USA

Lord of the Shadows was a book that I enjoyed very much. It had an amazing plot with twists and turns that left you wondering. Darren Shan is a half-vampire. He was an assistant to a full vampire named Mr. Crepsley, who was killed by Darren's ex-best friend, Steve Leonard. The book I read is the eleventh book in the series. In this book Darren goes back to his hometown with the Cirque Du Freak, (a freak show). He meets Darrius, a curious little boy, who in the end happens to be the son of Steve Leonard a crazy vampaneze. Steve's minions kidnap Evra Von's ( Darren's friend who is a snake-man) son, Shancus. At the end of the book Steve has Shancus and Darren has Darrius. Steve kills Shancus and Darren is left to kill Darrius as the evil in him grows. Then as Steve was about to abandon Darren to kill his son, he tells Darren that he would not only be killing Steve's son, but his own nephew. (July 2006)

Four Days Till Friday by Pat Moon

By Emma, 13, Cornwall, England

Most people know to stay away from the school bully. Usually when the bully has damaged its victim's life as much as he possibly can, he turns to someone else to destroy. Unfortunately, his next victim was Lester.

Ed had known Lester since he had been born; both of their mothers were in the same hospital together and Lester and Ed's friendship had grown from there. Ed had so many memories with Lester, so many good and funny memories, up until the Wall of Death. Ed had wished he could be in a group of boys, a gang called the Die Hards and when they had offered him a place in the gang, he'd have done anything to take it, even if it meant climbing up a barbed wire fence. Just managing to complete the task, Ed is warmly welcomed into the gang. But as he turns and sees Lester riding away from him, he feels betrayed and hurt by him, and their friendship slowly ended.

Doyle, the school's famous bully just can't get enough of Lester. His goal is to humiliate him whenever possible, even if that means making everyone believe he's gay. One day, on the bus ride home, Doyle taunts Lester for the last time. Ed spots a tear trickling down Lester's cheek and decides he's had enough of watching him suffer. Ed had never seen Lester cry before, so without knowing what he's doing, stands up and confronts Doyle.

With a threat of what Doyle will do to him on Friday, he and his friends must stick together and plan very carefully what to do. As the days pass, Ed begins to realise why Lester had rode away from him on the day - he was giving him a choice. Friday comes and the real trauma of the book arrives. Ed's happy memories of Lester return to him and he wants to become friends with him again, but is it too late?

I have never read a most emotional book in my entire life! I nearly cried after I'd read it. I won't spoil the ending but be prepared for the worst.

From Charlie's Point of View by Richard Scrimger

By H.W., 11, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

From Charlie's Point of View is a story about a fourteen-year-old blind boy called Charlie Fairmile. This book will appeal (very much) to readers who enjoy mystery and suspense, as this book has generous amounts of both.

Charlie's adventure begins when he and his best friend, Bernadette, moves to a new school, and Charlie's father is accused of robbing a bank. Even worse, the police are convinced that Charlie's dad is the Stocking Bandit. If Charlie wants to prevent his dad from going to prison, he has to find the real criminal-and fast!

This book has lots of fast-paced action and funny dialogue, and I thought the cover was very interesting. I thought how the main character was blind added a lot to his courage and skill, because it would be hard to believe that a blind teenager had solved a mystery even cops can't solve!

While the main idea of the story was the mystery of the Stocking Bandit, a part of this book also teaches the reader the values of friendship and how much more you could do with friends than by yourself. One of my favorite characters was Lewis Ellief, who was very clumsy, timid and shy, but also played a big role in solving the mystery of the Stocking Bandit.

I think the character I related to the most in this book is Bernadette, who is very tomboyish and gets along well with boys. I think From Charlie's Point of View would make a good movie. I havenýt read very many mysteries, and I was surprised at how much I liked this book.

I enjoyed reading this book-it was very funny and full of action. The style of this book was quite unusual, and I have not read a book like this before. From Charlie's Point of View also taught me what it is like to be blind-I have always wondered about this.

Overall From Charlie's Point of View was a very satisfying read, and I would rate it a 9.5/10. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense, action and mystery! (June 2006)
