Tony Mitton

Author of Fangtastic Raps (illustrated by Martin Chatterton)

Tony Mitton was born in Tripoli, North Africa and spent his childhood in Africa, Germany and Hong Kong. Before becoming a Primary Learning Support Teacher, he had various jobs -- one of them being a Swiss cowherd!

Tony completed an MA in English at Cambridge University and now divides his time between teaching and being a children's poet and story writer. He has written about 12 books for the Heinemann Spirals Starters series and about 8 for Collins Pathways. He has also contributed to numerous publications and has writen articles on early literacy development for Collins Educational Teacher's Magazine.

Tony gives performances to local primary schools and children's libraries as a children's poet, and has a lot of experience in giving lectures and training sessions for teachers, parents and students on a variety of subjects.

For Orchard, Tony has written the hilarious Raps series -- Royal Raps (winner of the Nottinghamshire Children's Book Award in 1997), Big Bad Raps (also available as a big book), Fangtastic Raps (winner of the Experian Big 3 Children's Book Prize in 1999) and Monster Raps. 2000 saw the publication of two more titles in the series, Scary Raps (now in paperback) and Robin Hood Raps.

Tony lives in Cambridge with his wife and two children.
