Feelings: A fine start to my teaching career

I started as a newly qualifed teacher in 1977. Mr Selman was Head of Science. He was an excellent teacher and a fine role model. I still model some of his good practices in my teaching today. He said " always dismiss your class from the door, that way you can keep an eye on those still in the classroom and watch the ones going down the corridor". He would notice if you hadn't marked your books and remind you the job needed doing. He was always in early doing his own marking. I remember having coffee from a proper coffee pot at breaks with Anne Cawood and friends
