Nero the Page

It is now the tenth and I have spent a month here in the castle with the other pages and squires in the tower. Summer is almost gone from the castle, which might put and end to our 'sword fights' and the weekly jousts, but it could bring feasting, for autumn is approaching and the harvest is being collected.

Today in the tower a new boy came, he is a head shorter than me but so far he seems braver and more eager to become a knight like the sirs. This new boy is kind to me and the other pages, but he stands up and doesn't take insults from the squires, who treat us surprisingly bad, seeing as they know manners.

Well, I must sleep now, tomorrow I will have to wake at dawn, for there is a joust I must see very early in the morning, and even before that manners lessons. September 2004

Grace

Dear Diary,

Today, I slept in too long. I didn't notice until one of the other servants woke me up. I had to get dressed quickly and then start doing my chores.

To make sure nobody knew I was late I had to do my chores as fast as I could. I don't do any chores that involve people so if I'm a little late it usually doesn't matter because no one really notices.

Since my chores are stuff like mopping the floor, washing the windows, and cleaning up outdoor areas, I thought I could get away with being late but I didn't. Today when I was cleaning up a horses stable a guard came up to me and asked me where I was this morning. They have never asked me that question when I was late before, but today I was really late so they probably noticed. I started stuttering so it was obvious that I guilty.

The guard took me to the King and told him what happened. Then the King asked me where I was and I was silent. I didn't know why I didn't say anything. I probably thought that if I said anything, something worse would happen.

But I was wrong. They said I was lying, and for doing that I have to stay in jail for two months with very little food and drink. After two months when I get out of jail I have to tell the truth or die.

So here I am now siting on the hard ground (not much harder than my bed) writing in my diary and counting the days until I get to come out and tell the truth. And who knows what that will lead to! September 2004

Elena I.

I can't believe it has been a week since I moved to the castle's great hall from my own dear home to the west, and yet still no news has come of possible return! The cook has set me to work in the kitchen. I bake for breakfast and supper, then I am sent to the cleaning servants and slaves.

I have to admit, today something wonderful happened. I saw the falcons and jousts and visited Lucy's Tower! I have today pet a dove and seen a falcon, and watched the knights practised. I worry I might miss this palace when I leave for my home again. September 2004

Lady Lauren

12.12.1284 Battle.

Today I was woken by a load of unexpected shouting and noise going on outside my castle. I arose to see what all the hassle was about and saw the nasty knights arguing with my good knights. Straight away I put on my dressing gown and ran outside to see what was going on I asked everybody's attention and asked my knights what was going on and my knights said that the nasty knights were planning on breaking into my castle and stealing my jewels.

I was very angry, in fact so angry that I ordered them to be sent to the dungeon. Not long after that the head person of the nasty knights came to see where her knights had gotten to and we captured her as well. Then we went to their castle and took their servents and made them our servants. September 2004

Isabel Maria

I woke up early this morning. It is a beautiful day. My servant, Elaina, helped me dress. I went down the stairway that led from my room to the Lower Hall and there were lovely white lillies sitting on the end table. I read the card, and it was from Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein. Don't tell anyone, but I am dating him. I love him, although I have never told anyone. I gave the flowers to Elaina and told her to put them in fresh water immediately. I then went out to see my wonderful horse, Anastasia. As I was brushing her I heard a rustling sound outside of the stable. Then Sir Ulrich Von Lichtenstein came inside to see me. He asked me to marry him! September 2004

Joe

I woke up and the rain poured into my room because I don’t have a window.

Today is the day when I will become a Knight!

I am too excited to eat my breakfast, but I had a mulled ale to give me courage.

I have done a lot of training for this day.

Dear diary,
Today was the worst day of my life. SOMEONE BROKE INTO OUR CASTLE!!! Worst of all, they stole everything that I had. Now that's a lot, and it's all very nice things you know! Anyway so it was Scotland breaking into my castle, so a war began. But it was right outside the castle. So when they came back, quite a few were missing and lots were dead hanging around the living ones' necks or on the horses!!

Bill the slave

Dear Diary,

Today has been very hard work, I mopped the whole castle with only two other slaves and I am getting executed tomorrow. This is my last entry.

I am being executed because I stole some bread from the kitchens while I was mopping the floor. My family knows I am being executed and this will be passed on to them. Goodbye dear family.

Jean Of Ark

My Dearest Family,

Oh! How I miss you all!

Life is hard here. One young knight was late for breakfast the the other day (Breakfast consisted of a Rotten Orange and a Piece of stale bread.) and was so brutally bashed with a large stone he ended up in the hospital tent with a broken arm, finger and toe, and 5 bruised ribs.

He was fine after a few days and returned to the usual training, chores and insults this morning.

I must make haste, for I do not have much time. I am soon to be called forth to prepare another attack. I cannot be more precise, for the enemy's spies are many. You cannot be sure who you can trust, therefore everyone is frightfully lonely.

Also I feel it is my duty to inform you of the grave news that our cousin and constant friend, Sir George, has been lost. He was boiled alive by the unforgiving muslims and his body has been put to eternal rest in the Holy Land. He will be missed deeply.

The Black Death seeps through our skins and bites into our souls. Its long thin hands grasp every bare neck, wringing the life from your body.

Oh! I am being summoned!! I will be home soon. Fair thee well for now.

Love From

your loving sister, niece daughter, friend,

Jean

Sir James

We have had a hard life here. The living conditions are disgraceful. The food is okay but there is not enough of it. I live in a tent with four other companions.

I have had few injuries. only a sword slash to the leg and a mace to the stoamch. My other companions have had few injuries also.

We have been sieging the city walls of Jerusalam for eight weeks straight.

The weather has not been on our side. The heat is intense. It is hard to believe the knights and squires can survive it as well as the sand and flies.

We have used many weapons so far. We have set five massive terbuches. They have been pounding the city for hours on end.

We are low on water but I hear there are supplies coming.

The enemy are firing flaming arrows time and time again. They must be planning something.
