THE NIGHTMARE

"Goodnight Mom," I say as I get in my soft bed.

I had had a hard day today. My soccer coach made us run ten laps and then do our regularly scheduled practice. I had also gotten a C on my science test. Tonight I know for a fact I'll go right to sleep.

I say my prayers and slip into a deep slumber.

"Sarah, wake up. It's time to go to school," my mom says while shaking me the next morning.

"I'm up, I'm up," I replied sleepily.

I got ready for school went into the kitchen to eat. When I was done eating breakfast my mom dropped me of at school.

As I walked home from school that day I noticed a small boy crying. He was dressed I torn blue jeans with a red shirt that seemed to be a few sizes too big. Judging by his face, he looked about six or seven and had blonde hair, big blue eyes, and pale skin.

"What's wrong little boy?" I asked him.

"My puppy went inside that house," he cried through tears while pointing to an abandoned shack, "And I'm too scared to go after him."

"I can go in and find him for you," I told him.

Suddenly his face brightened and he looked at me and cried, "Oh, could you? Please?"        "Of course.
But you have to stay right here so that when I find him I can bring him right to you," I said. "Oh, one more think what is your puppy's name?"

"Winston," he said.

I turned away from him and headed down the sidewalk of the run down house.

As I opened the door I inhaled dust and the smell of mildew. "This boy better be thankful," I said thinking aloud.

All of the sudden there was a very loud crash that came from my left. From the position of the house it seemed to be the kitchen.

I slowly reached my hand over and turned the knob and then pushed the door open. It was the kitchen. On the floor were broken cups, plates, and bowls that fell off a cupboard that had fallen over. Mysteriously, there was a door that had been behind the cupboard that was now visible. The door was open and had stairs going down to the basement.

"Ruff! Ruff!" came from the basement. I headed down the stairs to a freezing dungeon. On the walls were chains and torture devices. I looked all around and then there was Winston huddled up in the corner.

"Boom!" The door screamed as it was slammed shut.

"Oh, no!" I cried.

Then flames were all around me licking and the floor and walls.

"Help! Help!" I screamed.

"Sarah, wake up. You're having a nightmare," my mom said.

"It was a dream," I said relieved.

"Ha, ha, ha, ha," laughed a voice in my head.

"Oh, no," I thought, "I've been attacked by the Nightmare Nothingness!"
