My Brother

By Courtney, 13, Jacksonville, NC, USA

My brother is sweet,
He has smelly feet,
He likes to play baseball,
He likes to play football,
I yell at him alot.

He never leaves me alone,
He points,
He laughs,
He calls me names,
He gets me in trouble,
He gets on my nerves,
But in the end i still LOVE him!

Teddy Bears

By Emily , 9, UK

Some teddy bears are tiny,
Some teddy bears are tall,
Some teddy bears are big and round,
Some teddy bears are small.

Some teddy bears are woolly,
Some teddy bears are rough,
Some teddy bears have shaggy fur,
And some are balls of fluff.

Some teddy bears look happy,
Some teddy bears look sad,
Some teddy bears are very good,
And some teddy bears are bad.

But all teddy bears are loyal,
And all teddy bears are true,
And all teddy bears need lost of love,
And hugs from me and you.

Dream Away

By Georgia, 10, UK

Dream Away,
Dream of a day,
Dreams in bed,
Dont't care what people have said.

You can dream,
Make it seem,
You can fly,
Up in the sky!

Dream Away,
Dream of a day,
Dreams in bed,
Dont't care what people have said.

You can dream,
Upon a sunlight beam,
You can feel,
You can make it real!

Heavens

By Kristyann, 11, Modesto, CA, USA

You were here for us,
We've been there for you,
Now it's time to let it go,
To walk out of your shoes.

May God take you were you belong,
Up in the heavens,
Where whom you long to see,
Peace up in the heavens,
Away from the suffering.

Where the grass is green,
Where the river streams,
Where the golden path gleams,
Through the night and the heavens,
Where you're safe,
Where you need to be.

A Grotesque Visage

By Ellen, 14, Harrow, Middlesex, UK

A grotesque visage I wore on those days,
And beautiful flowers littered the sky,
Contributing to deaths in many ways,
The angels on ground carry us and die.

A grotesque visage I wore on those days,
I saw some of my comrade's collapse and flail,
I could not understand this killing craze,
And I saw, I watched them limp and pale.

A grotesque visage I wore on those days,
And not even the purity of snow,
Could wash the unsightly filth off my hands,
I tried to understand religious ways.

And at their funerals I made my speech,
I knew myself death was within my reach.

What Is Spring?

By Mehak, 7, Southall, London, UK

What is spring?
I need to know,
What it brings?
I wonder are the trees,
Nice and bright?
Or, is it that they,
Are dull and quiet?
Is it all bland?
I need to know.
Is the grass REALLY green?
I picture the flowers,
Blossoming.
I dream the bees ,
Buzzzzzing.
I see birds spreading their,
Wings.
Is this spring?

My Little Brother

By Whitney, 11, Benalla, Victoria, Australia

My little brother is a pain, he sometimes brings my life to shame!
He likes to pull my silky hair and rip the stitches out of my bear,
He speaks very loudly and likes to be rowdy,
I guess he's alright for a brother, although I wish he could bother another!
Sometimes I have too much of him and just want to slap him,
But I really do love him and I wouldn't know what I'd do without him!
I will try to cope with him for I know we all sin.

A Tempting No

By Helena, 14, York, North Yorkshire, UK

A nervous laugh,
And a dashing smile,
There's no excuse,
Come stay for a while?

Politely refuse,
And back away,
You'd really love to,
But not today,
Reach the corner,
And turn around.

Lying,
Such a bitter sound,
Just for a moment,
You needn't be long,
I think you'll find,
You're one step from wrong.

Regrettably not possible,
Dearly love to stay,
But you're so very busy,
Wouldn't want to be in the way.

I'm so very disappointed,
Your face is like a mask,
Why are you so cold?
Please do what i ask.
Take off that empty smile,
Surely it's no inconvenience,
To stay a little while?

Trust me I'd love to,
But I really must go.

An unconvincing liar,
Your falseness is starting to show

Really, not possible,
Perhaps another time?
I'm not at all unwilling,
Just forced to decline.

Where is your reason?
I simply must know,
We get along so well together,
Why should you have to go?

I'm totally torn,
I'd love to stay,
But just this once,
I must away.

Well, turn the corner,
And runaway,
But I'm sure we'll meet,
Another day.
You can't avoid me forever,
A never ending pretence,
You'll soon run out of options,
To your own expense.

The Beauty of Dreams

By Kwaku Amoako, 16, Cape Coast, Ghana, West Africa

Only if I were God,
I would turn the world around,
And the rock beneath me,
Will I give life of free to my people,
Only if I were God,
I would build the world again,
Free from war, hunger and colonial rule,
So that we may remain here on earth.

Only if I were God,
I would build the world again,
Where all inhabitants will be of one colour,
One currency and one unity,
For all things being equal 'ceteris paribus',
One continent, so help me God.

Raindrops On My Window

By Dionne, 13, NE, USA

Soothing rhythmic rain falls down from the sky,
Watch it as it pours and pours and makes puddles in the street,
The noisy rain does not stop as it bashes against my window,
Sometimes peaceful, sometimes fierce,
Rain pitter-patters down the window,
Raindrops race down the glass,
Sliding, streaming past each other,
Gray April skies promise green grass and flowers,
As the rain slowly stops,
The sky turns clear and blue,
Only few drops still rain down,
And look a rainbow is forming,
Across the sky in big bright colors,
Tells us that the rain has stopped,
Until the next rain comes and it all begins again.

Things Around Me.

By Ahimsan, 11, Crawley, West Sussex, UK

I stare at the wind,
As my eyes water and blur,
I stare at the sky,
It's blue and clear.

I look at the pedestrians,
As they shiver with cold,
I look at the car,
It's shiny but old.

I gaze at the trees,
As they wave at me,
I gaze at the grasses,
It's filled with butterflies and bees.

I glimpse at the children,
As they laugh and talk,
I glimpse at the dog,
It's going for its walk.

A New Day

By Alex, 12, Gulfport, MS, USA

The lonely wind sings her slow, mournful song.
The fall leaves dance solemnly together.
The bare trees bow as dawn arrives,
The round, warm sun bounds into the sky.
The sleepy world awakes from its night time slumber.
The delicate flowers stretch out of bed as if reaching for their mothers.
Fluffy, white clouds come out of hiding.
The artistic sky, paints itself soft colors from an artist's pallet.
A little butterfly excitedly flies to the horizon singing,
'A new day has begun!'

The Death of a Scream

By Charis, 12, London, UK

The moon shines dark,
As the sky disappears,
The trees true bark,
Is full of cold ears.

It stands in the quagmire,
In an ancient land,
It lives in the fire,
Of a dead man's sand.

It's eyes of death,
Peer endless pain,
Like deadly breath,
On a winter's plain.

It dreams of a time,
So long ago be,
A place, but a rhyme,
A wonderful sea.

It seems to cry,
A heart weary drop,
It wonders why,
It's life did stop,

I run from fear,
To my moonlit pool,
It's voice is near,
Me, it does call.

It screams it's life,
To my youthful ear,
I hear it's strife,
Through all it's years.

I join in it's song,
The end of the end,
It's arms grip me long,
Its eyes, signs they send.

It wraps me blood,
Now death is my cure,
My life ends like mud,
No life to live any more.

But yet it screams still,
To wake up the dead,
What mind is its will,
I ask in my head.

The murderers stare,
For the time to come,
My life is not there,
But it's still got some.

They slip their blades,
Through it's deadly neck,
They take of it's trades,
And leave it a wreck.

I wonder in pity,
How it became so,
Those creatures, so witty,
To death they shall go.

It stands in the quagmire,
In an ancient land,
It lives in the fire,
Of a dead man's sand.

The moon shines bright,
As the sky reappears,
The trees true sight,
Is full of warm ears.

Distance

By Sarrah, 15, Townsville, QLD, Australia

I think about it everyday,
The dreadful day we went away,
Moved across the land so far,
Six days we travelled in our dark green car.
I never wanted to move all the way here,
But to my father's happiness, my heart was near,
He longed to be near his family's side,
So I didn't complain and tried not to cry.
Still sometimes I wish we had never left.
Sometimes I wish I had made a fuss,
Maybe then we wouldn't have come this distance,
Away from friends, so many who loved us.
But as long as my father's happy here,
I just keep my old home in my heart so dear.

The Fight for the Signed Harry Potter Book!

By Hannah, 10, Wimbledon, London, UK

'Its mine,' she said.
'No its not!' He replied.
'We all think it's yours!' they shouted and cried.

'Give it back!' I demanded.
'It's mine fair and square.
It cost a lot of money,
and it's terribly rare.'

They pushed and they shoved,
'till their arms all dropped off.
They all think it's theirs
but really it's not!

It's not everyday when I walk past the shops,
that J.K. Rowling's in the bookshop!

Angel

By Alice, 12, Bunwell, Norfolk, UK

As swift and as genteel as an owl,
As smooth and as sleek as a labrador puppy,
As understanding and kind as a mother,
And as caring and willing as a grandma.

As beautiful as a rose,
As stunning as a ruby,
As graceful as a swan,
And as wonderful as life.

A angel is every one of these things.

Spring Time!

By Cheyenne, 12, AL, USA

I love spring time the way the wind chimes,
How the birds sing and the bees whine,
How the flowers grow,
They grow slow, I know,
I'm glad to see winter time behind!

The Weather

By Nicole, 10, Isle of Lewis, Scotland

The weather can be bright,
The weather can be dull.

The weather can be sunny,
The weather can be rainy.

The weather can be snow,
The weather can be sleet.

The seasons can be sunny,
Sun blazing in the sky.

The seasons can be snowy,
Blizzards flying by.

It's Hard to Write a Poem

By Becca , 12, USA

It's hard to write a poem
It really actually is
I try all day and never do it
It's hard to write a poem
I sit all day and think
Iý'll even try not to blink
It's hard to write a poem
My teacher tells me no
But it I know its so
It's hard to write a poem

[HAHA; I JUST WROTE A POEM!]

Tragedy Tale

By Thea, 12, Kirkcaldy, Scotland

It is not fair their families fight,
For they were lovers day and night.

So many deaths, so many died,
The tears they shed for how they cried.

These were the words Shakespeare told,
To show what their future did behold.

Daggers and poison in the crypt,
Were all scribed into Shakespeare's script.

Fighting families' alas found relief,
But only when united by unbearable grief.

A powerful tale of love and hate,
Brought Romeo and Juliet to their sad fate.

The lovers now at peace forever,
Buried side by side they will always be together.

Oh what a tragedy Shakespeare penned,
With hate, love and death, and finally a peaceful end.
