Running on the Railway

By Jocanne, 11, Rochford, Essex, UK

As I steamed down the rickety tracks,
I opened my black mouth,
And let coal fly into my raging fire,
I swiftly carry humans to their destination,
And I never tire!

I'm like a heard of horses,
Running free,
When I'm running on the tracks,
And I'm as swift and as sharp,
As a shark's tooth,
As I come into the station,
People come to look at me,
I'm the most extravagant train in the world!

Dove Shampoo

By Fay, 10, UK

I get squeezed fiercely out of my body,
And lathered into greasy hair,
I start running down their back,
As fast as the Euro Star train.
Because the jug of water has rinsed me out!
The plug has been pulled!
I am the unlucky one, who slithers down the drain.
I start to swirl down in the water tornado,
Like I was on a roller coaster.
Crashing against the walls,
Into the sewage I go!
I don't feel like the others,
I feel like a lost puppy.
Who am I?
I am Dove shampoo.

The Car

By Katie, 10, Rochford, Essex, UK

They open me and climb in,
They turn on my mechanical sin,
I charge off down the road,
Feeling no more than a load,
I see the spoilt way they live,
And wish my memory was like a sieve.

When I return home they leave me in the soil,
I stay there to boil,
Soon dawn wakes,
And my journey goes on till late,
I am their car.

Tornado Wind

By Jack, 9, Worcester England

The tornado has such a whistling sound,
Ripping through the town.
The tornado has such a strong grip,
Tearing buildings down!

The tornado is strong and almighty,
A very deadly storm.
A killing twirling tower,
And freezing, not even warm!

Streets left battered,
Torn up straight through.
Tornado desaster,
In the centre of Peru!

Raging Wind

By William, 8 , Worcester, UK

The boat rocked whilst strong wind,
Wailed through the night.
The cabin froze through the midnight wind,
Whilsst people were blown over,
From the raging wind.

The window shattered,
From the force of the powerful wind.
The wind whooshed through the
windy sea,
In the midnight waves.

Malvern hills Wind

By Caitlin, 8, Worcester, UK

The soft grass waved rapidly,
As the wind zoomed by,
But, when you look at it,
It almost makes you cry.

As the sheep go baa,
In the horrible storm,
As they look at others,
They really wish they were warm.

Me

By Martha, 9, Liversedge, West Yorkshire, UK

Funny,
Sneaky,
Happy,
Cheeky.

Chatty,
Arty,
Active,
Hearty.

All these words describe me so well,
But there is so many more to tell!

Fire

By Josh, 10, Wednesbury, West Midlands, UK

The fire is a violent killer,
Who eats the houses for his dinner,
He runs around in a claret red mask,
Who'll never stop till he completes his task.

He reaches his fingers to destroy the houses,
He fries and cooks but then he takes a look,
But then there's nothing left to cook,
He gets on a plane over to France,
To burn the city that's the violent fire dance.

The Dinner Lady

By Ellie, 8, Norwich, Norfolk, UK

I'm the dinner lady,
Serving up stew.
I'm the dinner lady,
How do you do?

I'm the dinner lady,
Not too much noise.
Let's have a bit of
Quiet girls and boys.

My Lord

By Mel, 14, Princeton, NJ, USA

The lord guides me,
He's with me every day,
The lord guides me,
Takes all my fears away,
And when I am weak,
He stands strong,
My heart he will seek,
Praying I do no wrong,
He never leaves me,
Though at times I feel alone,
He let me see,
His love is not a loan.

The Caretaker

By Ellie, 8, Norwich, Norfolk, UK

I'm the caretaker,
Mopping the floor.
I'm the caretaker,
Opening the door.

I'm the caretaker,
Stacking the chairs.
I'm the caretaker,
With not many hairs.

Alex get back and
wait your turn,
Pick up that money
that you earn.
Lucy don't bother,
Billy I've told you
Once and I won't
tell you again.

The Magic Box

By Theo, 9, Northumberland, UK

I will put in the box,
The first April shower tapping on the window,
The last crackling fire burning away,
A blazing blast from a purple moon.

I will put in the box,
Bubbling brain juice soaking the brain,
A ghost haunting the castle of Henry VIII,
A daft fool screeching nonsense.

I will put in the box,
A hungry hippo eating rats,
A caveman with a computer,
And a soldier with a club.

My box is fashioned from rotting corpses,
Held together by dinosaur skin patterned with a tooth,
The corners sewn together with hair,
The hinges made from the spines of the best books.

I shall climb in my box up the tallest tree in the world
The strongest gust of wind will blow me off and I will handglide down,
To a clearing in the forest with grass as green as leaves.

Midnight

By Brittany, 9, West Midlands, UK

Black like coal,
Tranquil sounds,
See the mole,
Underground,
Testing Twitters,
Eletrical harp,
Bedtime fitters,
No ducks in the park.
No sign of a human,
A midnight feast,
Gentle breeze blowing,
Definitely no beasts.

The Encounter

By Sarah, 15, NY, USA

I saw an eagle today,
Perched far above a field of tender grass.
He was beautiful in silence,
As he watched the spring landscape,
His golden eyes blazing fire.
His gaze passed over the waving heads of wheat,
Stirred by the wind's gentle breath,
And sparkling with myriad flowers.
He focused on a bird,
Singing his heart away,
And thrilling to the newness of spring.
The eagle gathered his wings,
And releasing his iron grip on the bough,
Flapped slowly, deliberately, for a moment,
Before his lightning bolt
STRUCK
Towards the ground.
His outstretched talons barely swept the swaying grass,
As he shot towards the sparrow,
On a bush.
Terrified, the bird hesitated,
The eagle grabbed,
And with fierce pride in his bearing,
Carried off the sparrow,
Dead to the April world.

Spider, Spider

By Carli, 10, Coin, Malaga, Spain

Spider, spider climb up your web,
For when I come fetch you,
You must be wed.

For every spider
Has a wife,
To travel with
For all his life.

The Good God

By Ree, 12, FL, USA

I have written
this poem to say that
the lord that I love is a good
god.

That every man and
woman should be thankful
for their life and love.

Who ever doesn't
believe this, then maybe
you are in a mist and
will be in an underworld.

Last always knows
that the lord from Heaven
is a Good God and that
he will never leave you nor
forsake you.

The River

By Lacey, 7, Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK

The river, the river,
Flowing down the waterfall,
Its fast and dangerous if you're not careful,
It's best in a boat not on a log,
If it gets very rough you might have to jump like a frog!

The river, the river,
Home to fisherman from near and far,
But they are not real hunters as they arrive by car!
I like the river home to all those fish,
I hope to come back as that's my wish.

The Nature Dream

By Abir, 10, MD, USA

Rays of the sun,
Shine on the lustrous trees.
Buzzing is the air,
Because of bumblebees.

The sun is shining out,
On the cities of moist grass,
Birds are soaring high,
Through clouds they pass.

Hopping are the deer,
So naive their expression seems.
Now rest my head,
Of nature I dream.

Science

By Teagan, 12, Devon, UK

Science is an extraordinary thing,
It makes us who we are,
It makes the scenery around us,
It even powers a car.

Physics is what holds up our world,
And holds us to the ground,
It's the pull and push,
It's what Archimedes found.

Biology homes the beings of this earth,
And with out it we would not be here,
It is our bones, our flesh
From a sprout of hair to a shedding of a newborn tear.

Chemistry completes our planet,
It is the squeaks and pops we cannot bear,
It is a solid, a liquid and a gas,
It is all around us, even in the air.

Bugs, planets, water, fire,
Science has an answer to it all,
For science is always there for us,
Science will catch me when I fall.

Life

By Deborah, 10, UK

Life,
What is life?
Why do we need life?
I see myself looking in the mirror every day saying, why am I alive?
I see people taking advantage of this thing called life,
Smoking taking drugs,
But I am so happy to have this thing called life today,
Life,
What is life?
Life is a special gift that no one can take control of.
